The frence had many reasons to get back and try to help the Ameicans colonize.It has been said that the France mostly allied with America to get back at the British for the loss of land in The Americas. The Frence had lost Canada in the 1783 Treaty of paris. They were very angry because of this and wanted the Britsh to become less powerful. They thought that there best option in doing this was to help the American Colonies gain there independence. They knew how weak the British had got and how much money they had to spend on the war so it was there best bet to get them while they were down.
France offically came into the American Revolutionin 1778 to help the Americans. France had the Navy and Soldiers that the American Continental Army needed to win the war, and thats exactly what they did. France and American both worked together for the seige of battle of Yorktown in 1781, and getting Cornwallisto surrender. This was the last war of the Revolution. The british could not afford to fight anymore, so the Americans had won there battle of Indepence.

It took a very long time for the Americans to win the alliance with France. They had to show France that they could win a battle in this war. The battle of Saratogawas the Battle that offically showed France that America could actually win the war. After this virtory at saratoga, Benjamin Franklin, Deane, and Author Lee, American diplomats were sent over to finally convince France to allie with America. In Febuary of 1778, Louis the XVI and Vergennes decided to finally sign the Treaty of Alliance as a peace offering, and almost friendship to the 13 colonies. The Treaty was for France and The Second Continental Congressto work together to end the war.
Unlike France the Spanish Empire was not so happy about reconizing the Freedon of the 13 colonies. Even though they has secretly been aiding the Americans through out the war, just like France, They did not want to sign a treay with America. They may have wanted The British to decline in there power but they thought they they would do it on there own in there own battle. The Americans would also be unsuccesful in getting allainces with The Dutchand other nuteral countries because they wanted to remain nutreal and not get involved in the war.

He motivated the Frence people to want to help the Americans win the war. His toughest battle was getting the Frence king, Louis XVI to sign the treaty but he stayed for as long as it took to get him to agree. It took almost 2 years and the victory at Saratoga for Franklin to get them to sign but he believed in his cause and would not back down till it was fafilled.
Unfortuatly for the King of France, he would not know what the out come of this alliance to America. The Frence came back from The war with ideas of the Enlightenmentand freedom on their minds. This would unfortunatly lead to the Revolution, that would send Louis the XVI off the thrown and lead to him being beheaded.
